How not Combing Your Hair can be a Sign of Depression.

How not Combing Your Hair can be a Sign of Depression.

I am not a medical expert.

The hundreds of women who have sat in my chair have given me great insight into the connection between depression and hair health. Many flop in my styling chair, let out a huge sigh, and begin to tell me not to judge them because they have yet to do anything to their hair (this can mean weeks or months). "I don't have the time," "I don't feel like myself," "I look fine, I don't have to do anything to my hair."

Does this sound familiar?

When you acknowledge these roadblocks with your hair, take a moment and look at yourself in the mirror (literally) and ask yourself the following: "When is the last time I did something for me? What does my hair say about me? What have I allowed to take time away from my self-care needs?

If you feel stumped by these questions or have a laundry list of things that are higher than you on YOUR PRIORITY LIST: Schedule the hair appointment NOW.

Your hair is also your voice on how you feel about yourself. If you have stopped maintaining or haven't seen the investment value for your hair, imagine silencing your voice and not seeing your value as a human being. Depression starts as tiny as a snowflake, and if not adequately managed properly, it quickly becomes a devastating avalanche in your life. Hair is one outlet to jump-start your self-care, step into your worth, and lightening the emotional load in your mind. Give yourself grace and become aware of the signs, especially from your hair. Allow your hair to be the guide to changing things in your life.
